Aim of Counselling
The overall aim of counselling is to provide an opportunity for the client to work towards living in a way he or she experiences as more satisfying and resourceful counselling involves a deliberately undertaken contract with clearly agreed boundaries and commitment to privacy and confidentiality
Why do people come for counselling?
Counselling offers an opportunity for you to think and talk in confidence about difficulties, experiences, feelings, fears, anxieties and problems that concern you
Especially children and Adolescents counselling on the following concerns:-
- Emotional Assessments: Focusing primarily on self-esteem, confidence and functioning within the family unit, school environment and socially
- Educational Assessments: Examining intellectual functioning (IQ), as well as skills such as reading accuracy, spelling, reading comprehension, written work and mathematics. A screening for learning disabilities, as well as the emotional components of learning, like achievement-motivation, confidence in scholastic aims and goals, as well as study habits and attitudes, are included. Specific focus is placed on whether remedial assistance, occupational therapy, speech therapy or other interventions are required to assist the learner in achieving according to their full potential.
- Vocational Assessments: Looking at aptitudes, interests, personality functioning, goals and values, and combining these to increase self-knowledge and enable the client to make a more informed and considered choice concerning a change in career or tertiary education and further study.
- Subject Choice Assessments: Examining aptitudes, interests and future career goals.
- Psychological Assessments: Examining intellectual functioning [IQ] using an IQ test to assist the person in understanding his/her areas of Intellectual strength or vulnerability.
- Promotional/Change in Career Assessments: An interview would reveal the adult’s needs in terms of job satisfaction and requirements in the workplace. Aptitude/Intellectual tests as well as Interest Inventories together with Personality Tests would assist the psychologist in guiding the adult/institution in making decisions regarding whether to accept the position or whether to hire the candidate.

- Extreme feelings such as anger, shame, guilt, sadness or loneliness may be affecting your daily life, keeping you stuck in an uncomfortable place of work/group of people.
